Common names : Sp: papayillo, yucca de campo (Ecuador), papaya de monte, coral

Origin and geographical distribution : Andean Pacific slope (0-1800 m) of the Andes of Ecuador (Guayas, El Oro, Loja) and Northern Peru (Cajamarca, La Libertad, Tumbes) in dry to very dry environment.

Status : Wild.

Description : Semi-lignose, ramified, height to 3 m, propagated by seeds; leaves lobed, flowers bright pink to purplish, plants dioecious, fruit elongated, orange at maturity, 2-3 x 1-1.5 cm.  

Uses : Edible fruits.
